Plenary - Chemicals

Developing stringent guidelines to prevent the release and build up of toxic chemicals into the environment has been a priority for Caroline in responding to legislative proposals.

REACH - Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals - provided an opportunity to introduce strict guidelines but the legislation was eventually severely watered down as a result of industry lobbying. Caroline also campaigned for amendments to the legislation that would ensure any environmental benefits were not off set by a great increase in animal testing as part of the regulatory regime.

Below you can read the text of two speeches she made in the European Parliament.
