MEP Meets The College Students Who Are Leading Varndean College’s ‘Green Revolution’

24 January 2008 - Students ‘greening up’ Varndean College are to receive a lesson in ‘Green Politics’ from South-East MEP and Brighton Pavilion MP hopeful Caroline Lucas.

Dr Lucas will meet the college’s ‘Green Team’, a group of students and staff who have been improving the college’s environmental performance for the last 18 months, and take a closer look at some of their initiatives, including a wind energy generation scheme and a paper recycling project.

"It’s really exciting to meet some of the enthusiastic students at Varndean and see some of their practical work, which has improved the college’s environmental performance - and earned the college ’silver eco-status’

"Brighton and Hove has a remarkable level of environmental awareness and green aspirations - yet it also has one of the largest environmental footprints in the country.

"Projects like Varndean’s ‘Green Team’ are at the cutting edge of carrying the city’s environmental aspirations into the next generation - and making an immediate difference too."

Dr Lucas will also address members of the college’s Politics Society on the role of an MEP, the relevance of the EU - especially in terms of environmental legislation - and the reality of a career in politics.
