I write this in a few spare moment ahead of chairing a seminar in the European Parliament designed to raise awareness of the barbaric practice that is bull fighting. The Parliament is this week hosting two days of events designed to persuade MEPs that bull fighting is a cultural activity, a sport enjoyed by all participants and one that it is not in any way cruel. I beg to differ and am appalled that animal suffering is being promoted in this way. Today’s seminar brings together animal welfare organisations, a veterinarian and an economist to expose some of the false perceptions around bull fighting, and to counter the pro blood sports propaganda that MEPs are being fed.
Earlier this week, my office got a little cramped when I had a life size model of a bull delivered! The bull now stands at our campaign stall in the Parliament and we have being encouraging fellow MEPs to register their support for the abolition of bull fighting by signing it. Naturally, I added my own signature…
