I penned a couple of letters to national newspapers earlier today, drawing attention to the link between the widely reported green rhetoric of world leaders at the G8 summit and the lack of political will on the ground to implement the mechanisms needed to deliver cuts in carbon emissions. Just look at the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme - in principle, it could play a role in regulating emissions and thus fighting climate change, but the terms are so hopelessly weak that any remotely positive contribution is likely to be a drop in the ocean compared to what is needed.
