Yesterday and today have been dominated by efforts to place pressure on Medway police to keep a sense of proportion over their policing of this year’s climate camp at Kingsnorth, where a new coal fired power station is due to be built. I am off to the camp shortly to try and find out for myself why the police are using pepper gas, riot shields and stop and search powers against a week of protest featuring, among other things, workshops on how to bake a vegan cake and renewable energy for beginners.
